No table or seat reservations... A very special event about Bangkok’s oldest bar and nightclub. Bangkok Beat, authored by Kevin Cummings, is a collection of short essays, images and verse about Checkinn99, its history, its people and their stories. The event is to show our appreciation for the efforts of the many artists, authors, poets, musicians, actors, staff and customers - the characters who have contributed in many ways to this new book. Collectively they have re-invented an old bordello and brought Checkinn99 back to life to become one of Bangkok’s most quirky and best-loved historic entertainment venues. Join us for two entertaining hours of light-hearted readings by our special guests, along with entertainment by Kevin Wood and the Music of the Heart band immediately following our Sunday jazz jam. Get to meet the authors and characters featured in this fascinating book. A limited number of copies will be available for purchase along with the iconic Bangkok Soi Dog #1 T-shirts, with art by Chris Coles. This book launch will be remembered and talked about for years to come.
A special event in both the entertainment and emotional calendars of Australians and New Zealanders is ANZAC Day 25th of April. Checklinn99 will host a Dusk Music Salute from 8pm.. this will follow-on from those who attend the dawn service at Hellfire Pass and 11am memorial ceremony at the Kanchanaburi War Cemetery. There is plenty of time to make it back for the 8pm start. The evening is special, very special. We will host a service of remembrance.. accompanied by the British Club Pipe Band and a Royal Conservatory trumpeter Damian Samson who will play the Last Post. The Ode will be read by a current or ex-serviceman or woman selected on the day. We will serve the traditional drink of the day - Gun barrel Coffee (Bundaberg Rum with anything).. then Music of the Heart will perform a special line up of down-under classic rock. The night is great for any nationality as it is a time to reflect.
